WHEN DOES WINDOWS 10 SUPPORT END?
As of October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer support Windows 10 users. Your PC will still work, but it will do so without any software updates, security fixes or technical support.
The next available operating system (OS) is Windows 11, which offers enhanced security features, an intuitive user experience, seamless integration with Microsoft 365 and improved multitasking functions.
So, what does this mean for you? In this article, we’ll uncover the options available for preparing your transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
How to Prepare for Windows 10 End of Life
Option 1: Update Your PC to Windows 11
The simplest option is to upgrade your current PC to Windows 11. Your hardware will, however, need to meet Windows 11's strict system requirements. You can use their PC Health Check app first to see if your PC meets the OS requirements.
If you are compatible, head to the settings area on your PC. You then need to click ‘Update & Security’ and ‘Windows 10’. You’ll receive on-screen instructions from there.
This upgrade is simple enough if you have just the one PC or laptop. But what about everyone else in your organisation? A Managed Service Provider, like Lily, will handle the entire process and ensure there is an alternate plan for incompatible devices.
If you’re not eligible, we recommend going for option 2: buying a new Windows 11 PC.
Option 2: Buy a New Windows 11 PC
If you’re not eligible for an upgrade, now’s the time to invest in new devices for your team. The Windows 11 OS is available from top brands like Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Surface, so there’s plenty to choose from.
You can reduce upfront costs by leasing your computers and laptops from Lily. Rather than buying outright, you’ll have access to the latest technology for much less.
Better yet, we’ll enrol, configure and deliver your devices so your employees can work without delay.
Option 3: Ignore the End-of-Life Deadline
You can continue to use your Windows 10 computer after October 2025, but this comes with caution. After the deadline, you will be working on an unsupported OS, making you susceptible to security risks like malware.
Your existing device won’t receive software or security updates, which increases the vulnerabilities that cyber criminals will be quick to exploit.
As cyber threats evolve, so must your IT equipment. Windows 11 is the most secure version of Windows to date, and with added IT security, we’ll ensure you're protected from these risks.
