5G, THE NEXT GENERATION OF MOBILE WORKING

5G is currently being developed with lightning-fast speeds far greater than 4G. But what are the main benefits and how does the future of 5G Mobile compare to 4G and 3G? Let’s find out.

5G MOBILE FOR BUSINESSES

WHAT IS 5G?

5G is the next generation of Broadband Cellular Network Technology, here to replace 4G within 3 to 5 years. 5G will allow users to have access to mobile download and upload speeds far greater than 4G of today, even rivalling the speeds of indoor internet broadband.

BENEFITS OF 5G

The main obvious benefit of 5G is its speed, which is predicted to be between 1 to 10 Gbps, and some sources even predicting speeds greater than 20 Gbps. Of course, this is a wide margin, but even 1 Gbps is a far greater improvement over 4g’s peak speed of 100 Mbps, which would mean 5G is 10 times faster than current technology.

5G will also have lower latency than the other generations, predicted at 1ms compared to 4G’s 45ms and 3G’s 120ms, leading to requests such as opening a web page or uploading a document to the cloud being recognized and completed faster also. This is just icing on the cake as even if it had the same latency as 4G, it’s predicted speeds would still result in a much faster and seamless experience regardless.

Another advantage is it’s reduced energy use, which will hopefully result in sensible pricing. Of course, as it will be the latest and greatest companies will charge a premium for it, but its reduced energy use will have helped make sure that prices are conservative and the switch to 5G would make more sense.

5G has more capacity than older 4G, meaning more users will be able to access a 5G connection in the same location (such as Leeds, or London) than having access to 4G. Currently, 4G data centres are overcrowded and 5G’s capacity will mean that more people can access 5G on the same data centre than 4G before it becomes overcrowded. 5G will also free up 4G’s data centres so people still using 4G will see faster speeds and less overcrowding.

5G MOBILE IN BUSINESS

5G will pave the way to popularising Mobile Working within businesses, and for good reason. It’s download and upload speeds will be closer to internet speeds in the office which will allow mobile workers to be more productive and efficient with their time than ever.

Mobile Workers won’t have to worry about trying to find a cafe or location with good WiFi to download or upload a large important document with 5G in the mix. Instead, Mobile Workers can be even more mobile and can continue to do more work in more locations than before.
